Outside the trail marker, the risk increases, often in a non-evident way. <\/li><li>Respect the times. The times indicated in the route sheets are indicative for an average walker. If you are on your first hike, calculate an extra margin. Start early: descending in the dark or in bad weather is much riskier.   <\/li><li>Pay attention to children. In the presence of children, choose routes with age-appropriate elevation gain and duration.
